Boosting Self-Esteem: Strategies for a more Positive Mindset

Self-Esteem is the Key

Self-esteem is the foundation on which we build our lives. It is how we act, view ourselves, and interact with those around us. Having good self-esteem allows us to become better in every way, opting for a healthier attitude, a more positive outlook on life, and maintain positive relationships. Being able to recognise the importance of self-esteem, and working to create a stronger sense of confidence and self-belief, we are able to better handle setbacks and pursue our dreams and goals confidently. Here are some practical strategies for a more positive mind.

1. Embrace Self-Compassion

Self-compassion means to treat yourself with kindness and understanding, especially in times where there is self-doubt. We are human, and we will make mistakes. It is important to look at our mistakes as opportunities to grow and focus on embracing self-compassion.

2. Question Negative Self-Talk

We are often our biggest enemy. When we talk to ourselves negatively and have self-critical thoughts it can dampen how we feel about ourselves. It is important to replace these negative thoughts with positive affirmations and have a realistic assessment and view of what we can do and who we are.

3. Have Realistic Goals

There are times where we set big goals for ourselves, goals that feel out of reach. When we cant reach these goals, it provides a sense of ‘I will never do any of this’. It is so important to break down goals and have a realistic view of what you can achieve. Break down the big goals into more manageable steps to build a feeling of accomplishment and progress.

4. Celebrate your Successes

Celebrate all your successes, no matter how small they may feel to you. Taking pride in your accomplishments and acknowledging progress is important to having a more realistic view of where you have come from, and gives you motivation to continue, one step at a time.

5. Surround yourself with Supportive People

Jim Rohn once said, ‘you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with’. It is important to surround yourself with supportive people, those who will uplift and encourage you to do your best. People who support and encourage you will foster a positive environment where you feel safe enough to grow and become better.

6. Practice Mindfulness

Become aware of yourself, the moment that you’re in and how you feel. Mindfulness focuses on bringing oneself back to the present and helps to cultivate gratitude and focus on the positives of life. This will help to enhance one’s overall well-being.

7. Seek Assistance
